Company data, people, UBOs and documents for Belgian businesses

Overview

AiPrise verifies Belgian businesses against the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises (KBO/BCE) and the registers linked to it. A business verification returns the company profile, directors and other officers, shareholders, ultimate beneficial owners (UBOs), and the documents the registers publish.

Business verification (company data, officers, shareholders, UBOs, documents)75 seconds8 minutes

Documents come back with the verification, so there is no separate document wait. The longer times come from fetching UBO and filed-document data from several registers. These are typical times from production, not a service-level commitment: set timeouts well above them, or use callbacks.

Statuses and legal forms

Every result carries the register's own status in registration_info.status and an AiPrise status in registration_info.normalised_status. The normalised status is one of Active, Suspended, Dormant, Dissolved / Struck Off, In Liquidation / Insolvency or Unknown.

Legal forms come back as the register writes them in entity_type, usually in French, for example Société à responsabilité limitée (SRL/BV), Société anonyme (SA/NV), Société en commandite (SComm/CommV), Association sans but lucratif (ASBL/VZW) and Personne physique (sole trader).

Quirks and gotchas

  • The UBO register has no filing for about 1 in 5 companies, so UBOs come back empty even when the company is active. Treat an empty UBO list as "not filed", not as "no owners".
  • About 1 in 10 entities are sole traders (Personne physique) or non-profits (ASBL/VZW). They have no share capital, so shareholders are always empty. Look at the officers instead.
  • Send the 10-digit enterprise number in business_entity_id, with or without dots. Keep the VAT number (BE…) for the VAT check.
  • The UBO register is sometimes briefly unavailable (about 3 in 100 requests). UBOs then come back empty, so re-run the check later.
  • Legal forms come back in French, even for Dutch-speaking companies, and old forms (SPRL, renamed SRL in 2019) still appear.
  • Foreign companies with a Belgian branch show as Entité étrangère and have their own enterprise number.

Limits

  • Shareholders are rebuilt from filed documents, so recent changes may not show yet.
  • Articles of association are available for companies incorporated or amended before a notary since 1 May 2019.
  • Not every company files every document, so some documents can be missing for a given company.
