Depending on your workflow, the licence is looked up directly or searched in the background. About 1 in 3 verifications use the background search. These are typical times from production, not a service-level commitment: set timeouts well above them, or use callbacks.

Statuses and legal forms

Every result carries the register's own status in registration_info.status and an AiPrise status in registration_info.normalised_status. The normalised status is one of Active, Suspended, Dormant, Dissolved / Struck Off, In Liquidation / Insolvency or Unknown.

Quirks and gotchas

Country-specific behaviour to know before you integrate.

QuirkDetails
Status often emptyAbout half of the licences come back without a status, so normalised_status is Unknown. Check the licence expiry date instead.
Expired licencesExpired maps to Suspended, not Dissolved / Struck Off.
Licence numbers are not uniqueThe same licence number can belong to more than one business. Send the legal name too, so the right licence is matched.
Background search takes minutesWhen the licence is searched in the background, the result arrives after about a minute, and up to 4 minutes for 9 in 10. Use callbacks.

Limits

  • Directors, shareholders and UBOs are not returned.
  • Licence documents are not available from the register.
